5 Steps to Create a Change In Your LifeJul 25, 2022
- You need clarity in your life. You need a target. You need a result that you're aiming towards. How do you know you're making progress if you don’t have a target?
- We have to clarify who we need to become. Who do we need to be to live in that future? To live in that outcome that we want. How does that person think? How does that person speak? How does that person walk? How do they show up?
- Understand the steps you need to take and create a plan so you can prioritize what are the things that need to happen and when, so you can achieve your outcome.
- Schedule it, put it in your calendar, and then refine when you're going to do what in that plan that you created.
- Take action towards the vision and the outcome that you want. Most people stop at this step.
Beautiful humans. Welcome to Become Unlimited with Jonathan Perez, where every week together we discuss and explore topics around what it really means to live an unlimited life. So join me every week, make sure that you subscribe if it interests you to truly be unlimited in your life. This week we're going to talk about change and how we all at some level, at the most foundational, fundamental level, are always changing and we're always striving to change something in our lives.
Even if we don't succeed, we still aim to do so. And what I want to do here is break down a simple framework that I've narrowed down for myself after really five or six years of diving into all the different areas of personal development, transformational, work. And even though I'm still on that path of learning, I'm always learning and trying to figure out the best ways to create the masterpiece of a life that I have refined a certain process, I have landed at a certain approach that has seemed to work really well for me and that has seemed to work really well for a lot of the clients that I work with one on one as well. So I want to share that with you here in five simple steps. Okay?
Now I say simple, that does not mean that it's easy. So I just want you to know that what I'm about to share with you in the five simple steps, it's really simple because, change isn't hard. What's hard is actually implementing and taking action and not doing the same things again the following day, making different choices. That's what's actually hard. The implementation, the execution.
So it's going to require discipline, commitment and will to actually make a change in your life, whatever it is that you want. So let's begin. And you're going to want to watch this till the end because if you miss a step then you're not going to have the full model or the full framework. Okay?
Get Clarity On Your desired Outcome or Result.
So step number one, you need clarity in your life. You need a target, you need an outcome, you need a result that you're aiming towards because if you don't have that then how do you even know if you're making progress towards something? Clarity is step number one because this is actually the biggest thing that most people are missing in their life. They might have an idea of what they want, but they haven't really clarified what it really means for them. So let me give you an example. People say they want abundance, they want abundance in their life.
They want to have an abundant lifestyle. And I say, okay, well, what does that mean for you? How do you know when you're abundant? Oh well, I'm feeling free. Okay, well that's going to be pretty hard to know when you're there because it's not really refined or very clear or specific.
So you won't necessarily know if you're making progress towards it or when you get there. How will you know when you've arrived? So more specifically that can look like, well, I'll know when I'm abundant, when all my needs are met, and I have X amount of extra money every month to spare. Oh, that's pretty specific, right? You would say all of your financial needs are met and your personal needs are met financially, and then you have extra to spare.
Well, that's a very clear definition of abundance. So whatever it is for you, you want to make sure that you've defined specifically what it is that you're aiming towards and what the outcome is that you want. So you know what it is that your target is. So clarify what it is that you want to change and what it will mean when you get there.
Who Do You Need To Become To Get What You Want?
So then step number two is who do you need to become to actually arrive at that outcome?
So what does that mean? Let's work with my example on abundance. Okay, so that person that wants abundance, that person that wants to have all of their needs met and have extra to give and share, that's going to require a certain type of person, a person that has certain ways of thinking, certain habits, certain beliefs, a certain way of showing up in the world. So that's actually what I'm referring to is we have to clarify who we need to become, who do we need to be to live in that future, to live in that outcome that we want. Okay?
So if someone who's living in lack, who is pushing away money because they think it's the root of all evil, well, that's probably going to push further away the thing that they want. So if you want a certain outcome, then you have to understand the type of person that it's going to take to get that outcome or that certain thing in your life that you want. So clarify who do you have to become? How does that person think? How does that person speak, how does that person walk, how do they show up?
What are their habits, how do they think? Clarify all of those things so you understand who it is that you need to become to achieve that outcome.
Create a Strategy and a Plan.
Then step number three is to create a plan. Create a plan around how you're going to create this. What are the steps that you need to take to get to your ultimate outcome?
So the way that you can think about this in a very simplistic way is when you want to take a trip somewhere, the outcome is the trip. It's actually making the trip happen. So then you say, all right, well if I want to take that trip, I need to create a list of the things I have to do. So I'm going to have to book my flights, book my hotel, make sure I know who's going, make sure I have the dates down, make sure I know what to pack. That would be the master to do list and the steps that you need to take to achieve the outcome of taking that trip.
So anything that you want in your life is no different than that. You have to simply understand what are the steps you need to take, and create a plan so you can prioritize what are the things that need to happen and when, so I can achieve my outcome. So that's the third step.
Fourth step is to then take that plan and schedule it into your calendar. Actually put a time frame on those things that you need to do, because most people create a plan, and then that's it.
They just leave it sitting there, and they don't actually schedule it into their calendar. It never gets done. So you don't actually make progress. So my recommendation is to schedule it, put it in your calendar, and then refine when you're going to do what in that plan that you created. So you'll want to, in other words, reverse engineer what you have to do.
So going back to that example of the trip, if you clarify all the steps and you're going to schedule it, when you might say, okay, in six months, I'm going to take that trip, then I want to schedule that next week, I have clarified the location. In a month, I need to make sure that we have our flights booked. In another month, I need to make sure that I ask for the days off. And you schedule you put that in your calendar so you know the steps that you need to take and when you're going to actually take that action.
Which leads me into step number five, which is to actually take action so when the theme comes up on your calendar that you actually do it.
Take Massive Action Every Day and Adjust as Needed.
So taking action is step number five and probably the most important step. Why? Because most people go through the first four steps, they might get clear. They might understand who they need to be, who they need to become to get that outcome. They create a plan. They know what they need to do, all the steps, they put it in their calendar, and then that's it. And I've fallen victim to this. So I know that taking action is the hardest thing to do, because then you actually have to face yourself and do the things that you said you were going to do and have discipline and commitment and do the things that you said you're going to do even when you don't feel like it. That's really the hard work here, that we take action regardless of how we feel.
Step number five is one that you really need to remember here after you've clarified all those steps, okay?
So taking action again, no matter what's happening, you have to make sure that after you've scheduled it, that you take action towards the vision and the outcome that you want. And if you actually do all those steps and then you take action, you're actually going to be way ahead of the curve, because most people stop at step number five. They don't actually take action. So let me know in the comments what landed for you.
These are the five steps that I have simplified from all of the work that I've done, all of the experiences I've had, and the wisdom I've gained from really understanding what it really means to achieve a certain outcome. And it's really worked for me, and I still use it now till this day. Much love. Share this with someone who, you know, needs it and let me know in the comments what it is that landed for you the most. Until next time.
